Articles > Alkyd Weathering Stain

Gives new Cedar a uniform weathered look in an accelerated time frame.

Machine applied to new wood shingle siding, PPG MACHINECOAT® alkyd weathering stain is a traditional, solvent-based, air-dry coating for use on substrates such as rough-sawn cedar. The stain can also be used for touch-up and trim by professional machine applicators. Gray when applied, the stain lightens over a six-to-nine-month period, giving the appearance of aged wood that blends more naturally into its surroundings. The faux-weathered appearance lasts long enough to bridge the time period until the wood begins to age and fade naturally.

Product Benefits

  • Provides uniform, weathered appearance
  • Can be applied to new cedar

Machinecoat

PPG has been a driving force in the machine-application industry for more than 90 years. For homeowners, builders, architects and lumber retailers, machine-applied coatings by PPG create significant advantages over coatings applied in the field. Our team works alongside machine applicators to generate consistent film builds, color performance and long-term durability to ensure each project receives beautiful and long-lasting protection.
